In IT MIGHT BE GONE, IT MIGHT BECOME, I investigate what an original, everyday “live” moment that touched me requires in order to be preserved and visually translated. For this, I focus on working with video and the possibilities of the medium. Elements such as tempo, sound and framing play an important role in the conservation of a “live” moment. Can the atmosphere and memory of an original moment somehow be preserved, or does it fundamentally change through the (cinematic) reconstruction of the memory?

The research is founded on the reconstruction of brief “live” moments I have experienced, and what is left of them once recorded. Just like my photographic and short video works, the memories are based on fragmentary snapshots of everyday scenes and encounters, details from reality. More often than not, a moment will fade away before you get the chance to capture it.

The research started in 2020 by selecting and processing filmable moments, while being in contact with other artists, theorists and writers to talk about the role of human memory. For the filming, I am collaborating with various directors of photography, technical assistants and a sound designer. Their interpretations have an inevitable influence on the memories and the way they are filmed – a key part of the collaboration and research in its own right.
